LÅNgträsk
SummaryThe Långträsk project is located just south east of the exhausted Långsele mine, 5km south west of Boliden in the eastern segment of the Skellefte district. Wiking Mineral is currently drill-testing a broad alteration zone with elevated grades of gold, silver and zinc.
The grades encountered indicate good potential to find further mineralization in the area. Exploration update Boliden Area 2012 »
Exploration 2007-2011During 2007 a first hole aimed at the downward continuation of the old Långsele mine intersected a wide alteration zone below 900 metres depth. This target has since been traced with another nine holes, the last of which finished in July 2011. Most holes have been surveyed with down-hole EM equipment to detect any conductors outside the holes that can indicate massive sulphide mineralization. To date no significant targets have been found in this manner. GeologyThe mineralization in the old Långsele mine occur in a pumice breccia in the uppermost portion of the volcanic sequence, followed by a footwall alteration zone that extends to the north and along the volcanic-sedimentary contact down dip to the South East. This alteration zone contains disseminated pyrite, locally with stringers of sphalerite or arsenopyrite and broad sections with elevated gold, silver and zinc. Small massive lenses of sulphides occur locally. |
